Expander

Hello All,
I am fresher to CFD analysis and especially to CFX and need help understanding the basic process. I have gone through the tutorial but still need help with this specific case. So, your help would kick start my attempt.

My problem consist of an inlet nozzle and expander(impeller).

Question 1.

1. One Component

Is it possible to vary the inlet flow direction if I am using only the impeller.
Please see attached "One component".
If possible please let me know in detail how.

2. Two Components

I have modelled the nozzle and impeller in bladegen which generates a fluid zone before and after the bladed portion. I have brought in these two geometries as shown attached. I have offset the nozzle and impeller on purpose for your clear view.

Is this correct approach? Should the fluid zones overlap as shown or they should not?

Thank you,
Karmavatar

You can specify inlet fluid velocity in the boundary condition tab.

Fluid volume domains should not overlap, but interfaces joining domains should overlap. I am not sure what you are askign here.

Glenn,
Thank you for your response and answering my second question.

For my first question, is it possible to have inlet flow direction say 20 degrees, 30 degrees other than "normal to boundary" ?

You can specify the inlet velocity as XYZ components in either cartesian or cylindrical coordinates. This should do what you want.

I chose cylindrical coordinates (a,r,t).

Intial setting was 1,0,0.

I assumed that these go from 0 to 1, so I set 0.8, 0, 0 to get a different inlet angle.

Is this how we set the angle? 'cause when I ran the solver it crashed.

Thanks

Hi karmavatar, can you please tell me how to create nozzle in bladegen. I could not figure out anything in bladegen for nozzle.

Thank you in advance
