Symmetry

Hi All,

I need to do cfx simulation for Impellar type fuel pump.
It has five domains.
1. Inlet Domain (unsymmetry)
2. Axial Clearance - Inlet side Domain (symmetry)
3. Blades Domain (35 fluid blade volumes spread out for 360°)
4. Axial clearancee - Outlet side Domain (symmetry)
5. Outlet Domain (unsymmetry)

Both in the top and bottom extreme (Inlet and outlet Domain) is circular sector volume and is not a symmetric geometry.
Next to those domains is axial clearances, which is a symmetric (complete circular volume).
In between these axial clearances, 35 impeller blade fluid volumes spread out for comple 360°.

My question here is that, is it possible to simplify the model with only one blades instead of complete 35 blades, considering the fact that the domains these blades is going to have domain interface (Axial clearances) is uniform for 360°. But the other two domains (inlet & Outlet) are not symmetry.

Please give your suggestions.

Most fuel pumps I have seen use positive displacement. You cannot model this using rotating frames of reference. The immersed grid approach is a better way.
