Porous domain boundary conditions

I am trying to simulate a heat exchanger in a duct , but I can not find any information in the documentation or on the internet to explain the relation between the "volume porosity" and the "permeability" . I found explanation for what the volume porosity represent which is : the local ratio of the volume of fluid to the total physical volume . Also I understood that the volume porosity value should be between 1 (wall condition) and 0 (opening) condition . I found also that the permeability value should range between 10 and 100 .

But , What physically does the permeability value represent and what does the relation between it and the volume porosity ?!

Thank You in advance
