Moving mesh in CFX

Hi Guys,

I'm going to move a flat plate up and down sinusoidally in CFX. The simulation is 2D. Does any one know How I should tackle this problem? I will appreciate, if you help me. tnx

Can you post an image of what you want to do? Is the plate vertical or horizontal?

Hi,

Sorry for replying late. Please have look at the tutorial posted on " https://www.box.com/shared/jicr9u3jgv". On page 3, you'll see a figure which is similar to my problem. I wan to move the middle zone sinusoidally with a flat plate. Could u please help how I can simulate this problem in CFX?

Have a look at the CFX tutorials. Several of them show how to model moving mesh.

Hi Glenn,

In CFX we only have two options: stationary domain and rotating domain. In my problem, which is a 2D simulation, I want to move both the fluid within the domain as well as a flat plate sinusoidally up and down. This means that domain itself should also move sinusoidally. The plate in my simulation follows this equation (v=A*sin(wt)), where v is the vertical component of velocity. Do I need to specify the same motion for mesh deformation? (mesh motion> specified displacement> Y=v) Does it make sense?

The two options you refer to are for rotating frame of reference simulation. You are looking for moving mesh, that is different.

Look at the CFX tutorials for moving mesh examples, not rotating examples.

Moving mesh allows any mesh motion. Rotating mesh only allows rotating motion, which I guess could be considered a sub-set of moving mesh.

I want to create translational and rotational motion of circle in CFX? Is it possible?

Yes, it is possible but you then have to use general mesh motion. You cannot model translation with rotating frames of reference.
