Hello,
Some time ago I asked a question about bunching trn results in CFX-Post. This is my original post: Quote:
Many thanks again. Best wishes, Christa |

It has been a few years since I've actively used CFx, but I know that the CFx reader in EnSight utilizes the CFX Provided API for reading. As part of this read, EnSight is told what transient files (.trn) belong to the particular .res file. This information is stored in the .res file. By using the cfx5edit capability, you can edit the control information in the .res file to specify which .trn files are associated with it. It has a been a while since I've used CFx, so I do not recall the exact commands within the cfx edit utility to change it.
Another option is to load up the first .res file (timesteps 1-n), and export out those timesteps as EnSight format. You will get a set of EnSight format files for timestep 1-n. You can then load up the seconds .res file (timestep n+1 to m), and export out EnSight format for this sequence (timesteps n+1 to m). Then, since the EnSight Case file is a very simple ascii file that you edit, you can simply edit either one of the .case files and add in the additional timestep information there. Should you need assistance with this, please let us know (it is simple to edit and save you tons of time in post processing). Let us know if we can be of further assistance. You can also contact us on support@ceisoftware.com as well. -Kevin (kevin@ceisoftware.com) |

Hi Kevin,
Thank you very much for your response. I think the second option sounds easier. I have managed to export my results into .case files from CFX Solver. I'm not sure how to proceed from there though. I need to edit the ascii files using an editor that will allow me to save in an Ensight-readable format. Will simple text editors work for that? Also, apart from adding the timsteps of the 1:n case to the n+1:m case file, is there any other change that I need to make? Also, I have recently started to use more and more of Ensight to post process my results, and though I was a bit sceptical at first I have warmed up to it. I have managed to create some interesting videos of particle traces etc and extract time-averaged values with ease, but I am currently stuck in trying to create a slightly complex keyframe animation. Do you think I will get help for this if I email the CEI support email you gave above? Again many thanks for your time and help. Best wishes, Christa |

Christa,
Glad to help. If you send me your two (or more) .case files, I can tell you exactly what to change to create one .case file which references both sets of data. They should be small, and easy to send. Essentially, the timeset needs to adjusted to reference all of the timesteps, and depending upon whether the grid changes from timestep to timestep (is a constant grid, just transient variables?). On the keyframe side of things, you are more than welcome to contact support@ceisoftware.com directly with your inquiry. If you obtain your EnSight license from a distributor, you may want to contact them. Else, I can assist you. -Kevin (email at kevin@ceisoftware.com) |
