OpenFOAM-1.7.1 Ubuntu-10.04.1 live DVD

Hello Foamers,

For sharing OpenFOAM with other colleagues here in Madrid, I have made a customized live-DVD of ubuntu 10.04.1 with OpenFOAM 1.7.1 built on. It is a 32 bit version and is available at http://dl.free.fr/glZBmERkc. I built it thanks to the method described on http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/personnaliser_livecd for personalizing ubuntu live-CDs (in French, itself based on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization). I attach to this message the scripts I used for that built, it can be of interest.

It also contains some other useful packages:

-> Nautilus-open-terminal, to open via the context menu a terminal where nautilus is pointing,
-> Gnuplot,
-> Scite, a text editor,
-> Thunderbird.

Before that I tried to build another live-system containing both the 1.6 and 1.7.x versions of OpenFOAM, but it finally failed. You can have a glance to that on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9797596.

Two different version

Hi

I�m new in Linux and OF. I installed OF 1.7.1 in my home directory. On the same machine, there is OF 1.5 already installed in a root director where i dont have access to. Now when I run a case, the cases still get solved with the old OF 1.5 solvers. What do I have to change, that I can solve cases with the new version?

OpenFoam 1.7.1 in Ubuntu 10.04 won't start working

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum, so hello everyone.
I am hoping to find some help here, because OpenFoam won't finally start working.
As mentioned above i am trying to install OpenFOAM 1.7.1 on Ubuntu 10.04. For both i am using the 64bit versions.
Naturally i followed the user guide http://www.openfoam.com/download/ubuntu.php
As they want i downloaded all the stuff by using apt-get and then installed it. I edited the Bashrc in how i guess the right way and tried to type icoFOAM -help and got the usage message. So everything is fine till this point.
In the next step they want me to build user directories so i can't crush the OpenFOAM opt-dir. I tried using mkdir -p $FOAM_RUN but my system was not doind anything and also didn't created the directory. So i got it manually

sudo mkdir FOAM_RUN

. Then i changed into this folder and tried to use

cp -r $FOAM_TUTORIALS $FOAM_RUN

but he said something like some folders doesn't exist. So again i changed my input to

sudo cp -r $FOAM_TUTORIALS ./

. And finally it worked. Then i was going ahead to the cavity folder and tried to type in blockMesh and he started working. Then he got me an error message :

So now i am confused. What made me curious (?) was that he couldn't use the commands mentioned in the install link. But i guess it won't be a problem that i built the directories in my home folder manually?
So i guessed that there was something wrong with my environment variables. I typed in

I am facing the problem with the installation of OpenFOAM 1.7.1. I have gone up to the step of extracting the file but I am unable to Setting environment variables.
I have gone through the procedure but i am getting the following error.

Error: Current directory is not $WM_PROJECT_DIR
The environment variable are not consistent with the installation.
Check the OpenFOAM entries in your dot-files and source them

Will anybody explain the procedure of Setting environment variables once to me(Step by Step) since i am not getting it.HELP ME PLEASE I AM TRYING FOR IT FROM A WEEK.

Just download OpenFOAM 1.7.1 build from your SF site. Thank you for your excellent work.

The file OpenFOAM-1.7.1.tar.gz will be uncompressed into OpenFOAM-1.7.1 folder. But the file ThirdParty-1.7.1.tar.gz will be uncompressed into ThirdParty-1.7.0. Is this normal ? Because I have already release 1.7.0 and I won't like to overwrite it.

Hi,

on my cluster I have frequently problems with nfs... I get an error like:
Stale NFS file handle

This happens mostly during write out of an simulation or other access to the files (e.g. mapFields).
Unfortunately, the simple procedures explained here (http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/nfs-st...-solution.html) are not
working always... so according to the statement of
Daemeon from January 29, 2009:
"When you force unmount/remount and still get the error, you have some
program that is probably (?) not following proper file handle semantics
about closing files.", there might be a problem in openfoam!?

This happens with 1.5-dev,1.6.x and 1.7.x. The cluster has OpenSUSE 11.2 installed.
The workstation is running with opensuse 11.1 and ubuntu lucid, which share the data directories using nfs.

Does anyone have similar problems and could have an advice, what I could check or adjust (maybe there are some nfs settings making it a bit more 'stable')!?

Installation problem in Redhat using gcc 4.1.2

While installing openFOAM 1.6 in Redhat, 1st I've tried to do the 3rd party installation. But, I encountered the following error:
wmake error: file 'Make/linux64gccDPOpt/objectFiles' could not be created

Can you pls help me in finding a solution?

Also is it better to build both Openfoam and 3rd party at one go, or first do the 3rd party and later the other one?

Moving already Installed OpenFOAM to different machine (user)

Hi Everyone,

How to make sure that moving an already existing OpenFOAM installation (built from source) to a different user in same machine or a user in different machine alltogether (assuming all OS, package installation to be the same), works fine (so that one needs not build it again, because its time-consuming).
I mean, just resetting the environment variables would be enough to complete the installation for a new user/machine ?

My actual problem, is that I am trying to run OpenFOAM on a grid.
And I am using my local installation for the grid-user (making sure the permission compatibility) . And I am not able to run OpenFOAM on grid as grid-user (after resetting the env variable according to grid-user)

Following error occurs on running a simple blockMesh Command:

OpenFoam-1.7.x on Suse 11.2 (64bit) does not compile

i tried to install Of1.7.0 on Ubuntu 10.04.

after typing ./Allwmake and after more than 3 hours this message is appeared:

but by typing foamInstallationTest no error is detected. what is the problem?

new user wants to get 1.6.x git problem

as a new user I write in the OpenFOAM directory:

git clone http://github.com/OpenFOAM-1.6.x.git (http because of firewall)

and i get the answer:

Initialized empty Git reposity in /hein/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.6.x/.git
fatal http://github..../info/refs not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server?

Why is it not possible to download OpenFOAM-1.6.x??

1.7.x works still

i want to update my 1.6.x and this happens:

I tried to install OpenFoam-1.6.x in Ubuntu 8.10. It shows the following error message.
Please, help some one, what might be the wrong during the time of installations?
