what is the software to generate mesh for flow 3d? Does Gambit works? Thanks

No, FLOW-3D has its own, finite difference mesh generator.

Hi Warren,
when you are using Gambit, I suppose that you don't only want to generate a mesh, but you are looking also for a convenient way to make your geometry. If you are familiar with Gambit, there is a way to generate STL files, which can be used in Flow3D. But this requires an additional conversion with Tgrid, a program which is usually delvivered together with Gambit: 1. Generate the Geometry in Gambit, take care that you only have one body with solely an outside surface. 2. Mesh the surface with tri´s using the pave algorithm. (Make only a surface mesh, no volume mesh!) 3. Save the mesh. 4. Close Gambit (after saving). 5. start tgrid in 3d mode 6. read the mesh 7. use the tgridn text interface: > file export stl <MYSTL.STL> 8. Exit tgrid MYSTL.stl can now be used in Flow3D : Meshing Geometry -> STL(Button) Easy??? My alternative: Use Rhino3D for generation of medium complex geometry. This has a variety of import/export filters (STL, IGES, STEP, DWG). Price ~ 1000 $ Sometimes it is still necesseary to repair the STL's. A Reliable and fast tool is Viscam of MARCAM. ~ 1000$ Regards Andreas |
