Non-Newtonian fluids

Has anyone figured out any limits for the parameters used for Non-Newtonian fluids simulations?

Thanks a lot!

What types of limits are you referring to?

I am refering to limits for the parameters. Like what is the min and max for the n,μ0 etc. Is there a limit, above which, the convergence will not be feasible?

yes, I even do not know where can I extract these parameters in an appropriate value. mu1,muc00,... if you know a useful reference please refer me to that. thank you my friend.

Re: Non-Newtonian fluids

Hi! The equation that the software uses to handle the non-newtonian fluids is the generalised carreau model. if you click on the little arrow that you can find in the menu, you will see the equation. I think that from that point, all you have to do is to adapt the equation that you have to the carreau model, and find the correlations between the different parameters. Not an easy work I would say, but it's the only way. I still have problems, and I cannot simulate non-newtonian.. I think that they should have implemented several common models (such as herschel bulkley or power law or even bingham to make our lives easier). I hope I shed some light.. I also hope to get some help on this from anyone who has overcome this problem...

Thanks!

Hello Nikolaos, E-mail FLOW3D(R) support and I will send you an example of how to implement a thixotropic fluid, at least to give you an idea of how to use the Carreau model. Melissa

Thank you Melissa! I will do it right now!

Hello AMP, If you send an e-mail to support I will send you a documentation on how to implement thixotropic fluids to give you an idea for non-newtonian. Best Regards, Melissa

Hi,

I am learning FLOW3D, and I have to use tixotropic fluid.I have read your post about the tixotropic fluid. So,If you do not mind Melissa, Could you send me an example of how to implement a thixotropic fluid? Thanks in advance. Ainara

Hello Melissa
I want to simulate the behavior of semi-solid metal during casting as Non-Newtonian fluids. I want to use FLOW-3D for that purpose, but have no idea how to input Carreau model parameters. So can you advice on this?
My E-mail is pesaramoli@gmail.com
Thank you.
