STL units and Surface elevation plot

Hi, I have made my geometry in solid works using units mm( milimeter). Now when i load it into Flow-3D it shows the same unit values( Min/Max extents). But I want to work in SI units. Also how to plot Surface elevation against time. Thanks in advance.

Re: STL units and Surface elevation plot

To work in SI unit, you may expand that subcomponent's tree structure under the Meshing & Geometry tab and enter the value 0.001 in Transformation>Magnifications>Global.

To plot surface elevation against time, you may highlight Fluid surface height in the Selected data list under the Output tab in v9.2.1; or check Hydraulic data in the Special output field and highlight Hydraulic data in the Selected data list under the Output tab in v9.3.

Hi MAB,

As far as the units issue is concerned, try global magnification for the .stl subcomponent by 0.001 and you will be using m instead of mm. For the surface elevation, unfortunately, I don't have a clue.

Thanks HC! your hint towards magnification is smart. I have calculated the hydraulic data. But I am wondering how to plot surface elevation against whole time interval in the post processor. ??

Re: STL units and Surface elevation plot

Select Analyze>Probe>Selected and you will see the variable in the list.

instead of Slected (DATA SOURCE) i have Restart option available. How I can make 'Selcted' option available. Thanks

To plot surface elevation against time, you may highlight Fluid surface height in the Selected data list under the Output tab in v9.2.1; or check Hydraulic data in the Special output field and highlight Hydraulic data in the Selected data list under the Output tab in v9.3.

The above has to be done before the simulation starts. Otherwise, you may not have the Selected option available.

After you get some simulation result, you may go to Analyze>Probe and choose the Selected option in the Data source field. Please also make the right result is loaded.

Re: STL units and Surface elevation plot

why not just scale the geometry model outside F3D?

Hi HC,

I am facing the same problem with scaling in flow 3d and I implemented the suggestion given by you (global magnification factor of 0.001). However when I do that, I am not able to get any simulation results. The simulation doesnot proceed at all. Its stuck at 0% (for more than an hour... )

Kindly give me more advice on the same.

Thanks.
