Guidelines please.

Hello experts,

I don't know much about the computational part. Please guide me about how to go about the problem described below. My request is only for guidelines.

We have a straight header (dia D) of length L. The inlet gas flow joins the header at the centre. The gas flow is distributed through 12 nos branches, spaced evenly over the length of the header. It was designed by an outside company. The branches are connecting to a bank of H.Exch.

Now it appears that the header design was based on simplified assumption of "incompressible fluid". The discharges through the different branches are different. The branch nea the inlet point of header gets the max flow .. and flow reduces gradually as we move away from the inlet point.. in either directions. However, the flow at the further point suddenly increases. Which appears possible if we consider the last branch Tee connection is behaving more like an eccentric reducer.

Could you please guide me about the basic guidelines .. and any free software which may give workable solution.

regards

Chakraborty
