Unsteady Flow Modeling in Flow3D

Folks,

Can we do Unsteady Flow Modeling in Flow3D? If yes, how ?

Any idea or comment?

Thanks

I believe you are referring to transient fluid flow modeling right? flow-3d is design to solve transient flow + VOF. btw, is your problem is free surface flow or confined flow?

Well, i am trying to model unsteady flow in a pressure tunnel. How can i enter the unsteady flow data as input to the model?

Free surface in open channel flow

Hello

I want to model 2D open channel flow using wall jet in the inlet and I want to see the depression close to the jet so i am convulsed about the boundary condition so i start with velocity inlet using VOF and outflow in the top and the outlet but I do not get good result than I use pressure inlet using open channel with free surface and velocity inlet about (1m/s) and pressure outlet top and the outlet and I still I am not able to see good free surface and depression close to the jet as what I have got from the experimental data so please if anyone know how to solve this problem please send me email (mghoma@yahoo.com) .Thanks for all your help.

Regards
Ghoma

Can you plz explain how one can do the tansient flow modeling in flow3d? Which model in Flow3d should be used?

thanks in advance.

Hi
by default all simulation in Flow-3D is transient/unsteady flow as Flow-3D doesn't really have a steady state solver.
so if you are model confined flow without free surface then you just need to turn on -> No sharp interface -> One Fluid
if you are dealing with free surface then turn on free surface under interface tracking.

for BC, you can have pressure inlet, velocity inlet as function of time to simulate unsteady input.

hope this help

Is it confined or has a free surface? What makes it transient?
