hi everyone,

I have a problem that two fluids need to be modeled during casting, use an example to explain: suppose two tanks A and B, tank A filled with fluid AA and tank B with fluid BB, AA and BB are different melting metals, C is the mold. and now AA and BB pour into C at the same time in the same inlet with different mass flow rate, heat transfer occers amoun AA,BB and the mold, I want to see the fractions of AA and BB during the process, also the fractions of metal and air should be displayed.

I tried to use two fluids model then the air disappeared, if use one fluid model ,then how to distinguish AA and BB? Please help me,thanks very much.

I've read the description of oil spill into water gas system, it uses the different density to refer to oil with fluid#1(water), and other properties are the same, and I do not know hao to distinguish oil and water.

Do I expressed clear?

You cannot have two fluids and void in FLOW-3D, not with a full set of properties for each fluid. But you can get close by assigning them different densities and viscosity, using the density transport model. you will have to ignore solidification since only one set of solidification properties is available.

The two metal can be distinguished wither by density, or you can use a passive scalar to color one of them.

i understand this is limitation with current version, so is there any improvement planned to included > 2 fluids + void?

There are no plans to implement a full capability to model two fluids plus voids with multiple sharp interfaces. There are, however, some limited two-phase, two-fluid capability within the main "one-fluid and void" approach now. You can have the "one fluid" consist of two components with different density and viscosity.

pls advice why you don't see a value to further improve/enhance the feature? I believe it will be benefit to a lot of application. the problem that mentioned here is one of them..

Hi CK,

We are plenty busy with developments that are more urgent, more useful and are based on the current framework. Developing a two-fluid/void capability will be a major extension of the current code and we do not see sufficient demand for this kind of investment.
