I am starting learning flow-3d by the tech notes and flow-3d official webpages. It is claimed that FAVOR can avoid "stair-step" boundaries that alter flow and heat-transfer properties. But in tech-note fsi-85-tn2, it is said that because a cartesian mesh was used, the cylindrical baffle is approximated by a stepped boundary. So I guess the FAVOR method is introduced into flow-3d after 1985, the published year of fsi-85-tn2. Is that true? Does somebody know when the FAVOR method is developed in flow-3d architecture?

I believe if compared FAVOR with body fitted mesh method, then FAVOR is not perfect but it does provide a quick meshing method to geometry. Again if the problem involved boundary layer effect near wall then i believe FAVOR method might not performance well as compared to body fitted mesh method.

The FAVOR method was introduced into FLOW-3D's first release in 1985. Baffles do not use FAVOR because by definition they have a zero thickness. This forces them to be approximated in the traditional stair-step manner, which is still the case now.
