I am trying to write a UDF for rigid body motion.

The airfoil pitches from -0.03 to 15.54 degrees. It is a simple ramp case.
The motion of the airfoil is as shown in the figure.
Please help how do I define the motion of the grid with rigid body motion.
I have equation of motion, will that be used anywhere in the UDF. Please help.

Hey,

You can simply generate points for omega with respect to time by using your equation (in MS Excel for instance). Then, you can transfer these points into a text file in a Fluent profile file (*.prof) format. After, hooking the profile onto the rigid zone, you can simulate the motion with the appropriate dynamic mesh settings.

And if you want a UDF to calculate each position at each timestep by using your equation, then you can use DEFINE_CG_MOTION macro to introduce your the angular velocity as a function of time. Please, check Ansys Help. There you can find UDFs very similar to your case.

Hope, this helps.

Cheers,
Koray

Hi koray
Is it possible to avoid UDF for dynamic mesh with some table data to define the motion of the boundary?

Hi there,

Just check ansys help and look for profile under fluent user guide. It's very straightforward.

Cheers,
Koray

Thanks koray!
I have checked. I should try it out.
