Hi all,

I have written a UDF for turning ON or OFF the heat flux boundary condition on a surface based on temperature.
The problem is a conduction problem and the model is actually generated in Icepak and is to be solved in FLUENT.
I read in the case file and then I interpret my UDF. It doesnt give me any errors whatsoever but then as I try to solve, upon clicking on "initialize", FLUENT gives me the following error:

FLUENT received fatal signal (ACCESS_VIOLATION)
1. Note exact events leading to error.
2. Save case/data under new name.
3. Exit program and restart to continue.
4. Report error to your distributor.

I would appreciate any guidance as to what this error may mean and whether it signifies an error in my code or is it something to do with the FLUENT software.

Thank you very much !!

Avinash.

Hi,

I received the same error when I used F_U(f,t) to try and get the velocity of the fluid at the face of my profile when I was trying to model a fan pressure drop. From the documentation, it seems as though FLUENT compartmentalizes its stored variables. The quote from the UDF manual says, "Note that these variables are available only in the segregated solver. In addition, quantities that are returned are available only if the corresponding physical model is active. For example, species mass fraction is available only if species transport has been enabled in the Species Model panel in FLUENT. Definitions for these macros can be found in the referenced header files (e.g., mem.h)."

I'm still trying to find a way to access the variable I need, but I got the same error in the same situation you did when that line of code was in my UDF.

I'd love to hear if you found another way.

Thanks
