How to get level of free surface position?
Hi
I have simulated the free surface flow in a bend. Now, i want to visualize the free surface. for example, i want to get the free surface elevation along the outer wall of the bend. is there anyway to get this kind of data from fluent? or any kinds of data that can be used in excel or Tecplot. i need to plot the free surface elevation along the walls vs bend angle. |
Hi,
what about to use the volume fraction isosurfaces? Andrea |
i could get the isosurface on outer or inner wall with volume fraction (of 0.5) but i do not know how to get the x,y and z of the points.

In Tecplot to you should be able to extract the isosurface as a zone; then you can export a data file which contains the variables of your interest.

i made a iso-surface of vof along the wall and exported the coordinates of the points to a text file. this can solve our present problem but i could not make a iso-surface of a vof value (vof=0.5) in whole the flow domain which will be a 3D surface.

In Tecplot you can create isosurfaces in the whole domain

X, Y and Z values in FLUENT Post
Once you create the isosurface (vol. frac. = 0.5) with a name (say, 'free-surface'), you can go to
File--> Export-->Solution Data Choose ASCII format You can choose Node or Cell data (choose node for larger data set to get smoother profile at the cost of an additional storage space) Check the isosurface just created in Surfaces list Select the quantity of interest from the Quantities list (you must select at least one quantity) Click Write (and give an appropriate file name) In the file that you just created, the X, Y and Z coordinates will be available along with the Quantity/ies that you had selected in a typical comma/space separated ASCII format.
