Micro-scale flows and wall roughness

Hi all,

I am currently modelling fluid flow through a tissue engineering scaffold. My geometry is complex and tortuous as it is derived directly form microCT scans of a real scaffold. The length scale I'm operating on is micrometers, whole geometry approx. 900um long and inlet velocity 34um/s.

I've assumed laminar flow as the reynolds number is obviously well below 1. However I'm interested in the effect wall roughness has on shear stresses at the wall (it will have an effect on cell attachment).

What is the best way to approach this problem? Does anyone have any resources on this scale of flow? Maybe the laminar assumption isn't accurate, either way I can't assign wall roughness factors using a laminar assumption. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Jake
