initial velocity/force in six dof solver (dynamic mesh)...plz help...urgent....

Hello,

I am trying to model a simulation of an object (sphere - rigid body) moving in water. I want to give it an initial velocity in x-direction and then let gravity, buoyancy, drags act on it. Then using 6 dof solver and dynamic meshing I will see the motion of the object.
Now there is an option in dynamic meshing to give velocity to center of gravity of the rigid body. I wanted to confirm that this will just be the initial velocity (like a push or force) that will act and then the object will be completely free to react to the forces acting on it or it will be like a constant velocity acting on it. I simulated a case in which I gave a velocity of 5 m/s and in 2.54 sec simulation, the x-vel remained nearly constant. So is it just initial velocity or it can be natural or there is some error in my inputs ?

Also is it possible to give a force to an object in any direction in 6 dof dynamic meshing problem, which acts on it up to some particular distance or for some particular time only ?

Plz help....
