Refractive index of a solid

Dear All, Requesting your help. I am using DO model to simulate radiation. I have used two materials for solid, namely, white paint and red-brick. In the material properties I see an option for specifying refractive index. By default the value is 1. Is this refractive index corresponding to optical wavelengths only or is it for complete therma radiation? So for solids like brick wall, is the RI going to be 0 or 1 or some other value corresponding to the brick material?

Please provide references that are useful. Thanks so much,

Yours,
rsslnt
