Hi all,
I am modelling a wheel in a flow. Some parts rotate. Some parts do not. I have a CAD model of the wheel. In the past I have removed a CAD model from a fluid flow using either: 1) Boolean removal 2) Enclosure then "suppression" of the CAD model This removal was fine as Fluent determined my object was a boundary in the fluid and let me set it up as *one* wall inside the fluid. But now I need one wall for the stationary parts, another round the rotating parts. I tried setting up Named Ranges for the boundaries. The problem is that both boolean removal and suppression (of the part) also suppress any associated named ranges. When I name my "rotating" and "non-rotating" parts, I can't remove them from the fluid without losing the associated named ranges. So then I have no way of specifying that I want two distinct walls for moving/rotating parts. So the question is - how do I split up my fluid walls based on geometry from my model, when this geometry has necessarily been removed from the fluid? This must be an easy problem but I've been at it for hours and can't find anything useful online... Thanks all Anton :-) Last edited by AntonZ44; February 15, 2013 at 18:17. |

This must be a stupid question to you guys who do this every day, but I've genuinely spent probably 10 hours of my life looking for a solution. Any pointers in the right direction?
