hello friends,

I am simulating electron bram - physically vapour deposition system to find out deposited coating thickness...
using transient analysis... ie. after 5 min.

my Questions
1. is there any provision to find thickness directly by fluent.....? if no.. so how could i calculate...?

2. I have one method but not sure whether it's correct or not... an also have some doubt related to this....

the method
step 1 : define custom variable in fluent

mass deposited=density*area*velocity*time step size

i.e.
mass deposited = density*pi/4*(0.016)^ 2 * velocity *0.005

step 2 : manual calculation

volume = mass deposited /density

volume = area* height

than I can found height.....!!!!

please tell me by above method can we find thickness....!!!???? please suggest me modification or. alternative method.....

but I have doubts related to method....

in step 1's equation, density is calculated by fluent after every time step or I have to give constant value manually......

in step 2 equation which density I should use.....?as I used in boundary condition (i.e. 2250) or any other.... in simple way the density used in step 1 and step 2 equation should be same....???

looking for early reply....

thanks in advance

Are you using Volume of Fluid or multiphase approach?

I am using species transport model and reaction mechanism is on.... n I have 5 species in my model named
y2o3 -yttrium oxide
yo - yttrium monoxide
o2 -oxygen
o- atomic oxygen
y- yttrium

reaction is

y203 converts in yo + o
yo converts in y + o
y + o2 converts in y2o3 ..... coating deposited on substrate..

Can you see the volume fraction of the coating material in Fluent? If not can you export it?

Once you export the volume fraction data you could process it with excel or matlab.

In contours and then phases.

Hello Sir,
Did you get an answer to you question. I am dealing with a similar problem which is the Dust particle precipitation on surfaces. i use the discrete phase model and succeed to get the rate of precipitation in micron/sec. I couldn't pick the time or iterations to multiply it by this rate of precipitation and get total film thickness.
Doing this manually is a bad idea because I can't do it for thousands of points. Using excel will not enable me to draw a contour of film thickness variation wit position.
If you got an answer to your questions that will so useful for me and I shall be so grateful to know about it.
Thank you
