Slug flow modelling in vertical pipe using ansys software 12.1
 
My name is Eric Thompson I am pursuing my masters in petroleum engineering at African University of Science and Technology. However, I am using anys software 12.1 in my thesis work to model slug flow using VOF model, but I am facing some challenges and stack up now, even though, I have set most of the parameters for VOF model.
pressure based solver
Volume of fluid model
K.e turbulence model
phases- air and silicone oil
Boundary conditions
velocity inlet
Outflow
Wall
Eventhough, the solution converges, I cant see the slugs been displaced in the contours. It seems l need some technical guide to overcome this challenge. I have tried using Outflow as a boundary condition and got unexpected results... Fluent manual suggests the application of Pressure Outlet boundary

Could you describe your geometry? Pipe diameter and length, vertical or horizontal? How did you define the phases inputs?

Make sure you are using Geo-reconstruct for volume fraction advection and explicit transient scheme...

Slug flow modelling in 6m vertical pipe

Please the geometry of the pipe is 6 m with the following properties. Iwill be grateful if we can skype(kpesco1) or email (kpesco_azigi@yahoo.com) tto enable me to discuss the problem well with you


Vertical Pipe angle =90
Length = 6m

Diameter of the pipe= 0.067m
Air density = 1.18kg/m3
air viscosity = 0.000018Kg/m s
Siicone oil = 900kg/m3
Silicone oil viscosity = 0.00525 Kg/m s
Surface tension = 0.02

Geometry 3D
Acceleration due to gravity = -9.81m/s2
Transient state modelling

Hi Friends
I want to start working with ANSYS for CFD simulation of slug flow.
I wanted to know that is this software capable of simulation of this flow pattern?
do you have any paper that shows validation of ANSYS or FLUENT simulation
with experimental data?

i have read some papers that I think the authors used fluent to simulate slug flow

the only ones that I remember that validated their results with experimetal data were simulations of a single taylor bubble moving in stagnant or flowing liquid

simulations of several bubbles were only qualitatively compared to exparimental observations
