Hello,

I would like to model an impeller as a momentum source term - obviously not having to take into account of impeller geometry or rotating mesh. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I'm not entirely sure what would go into the UDF. I will be using Fluent.

I already worked on a stirred tank equipped with a PBT impeller. As far as I know, there are two general methods to model an impeller. In the first method, one should consider the whole impeller geometry (3D) and use one of the rotating schemes such as SRF or MRF and etc. In the second one which is applied in 2D geometry, the experimental data of velocity is prescribed onto impeller blades. Depending on kind of impeller you use, the position of prescription is quite different. In some cases, the upper blade is used, in some cases the middle and in some conditions the below blade is used. That was according to my experience in stirred tank modeling.
