How to simulate fluid flow with solid particles mixed with them??
I am a mechanical engineering student. i would like to simulate a flow which has the medium as fluid with small solid particles mixed with them for a research project. This multiphase medium will strike on walls of a cylinder and i need to find its impact on the walls. I dont have much knowledge about ansys and have just started working on it. So any sort of help would be appreciated.
Single phase of the simulation of a flow in a cylinder is peace of a cake! You only need to define the boundary conditions correctly. The most important is second phase. If the content of solid particle in flow is lower than 10 to 12 percent, then use DPM model. Otherwise, you need to choose Eulerian or mixture multiphase mode. Keep in you mind that, first receive a converged solution in single phase then add particles into fluid.
You have to increase your insight concerning the physics of the problem before go to run step.

Thanks for your help. I know i am a little late in this reply, but i was a little busy with the model. However, after trying for a few months, i was not able to proceed further. The problem i am facing is that after using ANSYS Fluent, i am not able to specify the material of my cylinder in it.
My Experiment is as follows: A multi-phase solution flows through a cylinder and strikes a particular section of the cylinder. Due to this, the cylinder material will wear off a little bit and we need to find the final dimension of the cylinder, after the experiment. As there is no option to specify the cylinder material in Fluent, could you guide me on how to proceed further.
Any help is highly appreciated, as this concerns our final year project.
