Hi every one.

I'm really new at fluent. My professor has asked me to simulate a pyrolysis process. And in my case, the temperature is considered rather low so chemical reaction isn't much of an issue.

So, after heating the biomass, which is porous media, it generates gases. And the amount of gas is a function of the temperature of the biomass.

I didn't see anything that says you can make porous media a gas source. So i'm just wondering if it's possible to setup an inlet, and let the inlet is dependent on temperature of the biomass within the chamber.

Thank you!!

I want to clarify sth. For now, i'm still determining whether if fluent is equipped to do the coupling between the temperature and the biomass. So, i would really appreciate if anyone would like to just give me a heads-up.

Also, it's two concentric circles canister. Within the inner circle we burn wood as fuels to provide heat for biomass, which is located between two circles, to go into pyrolysis. And i'm just thinking maybe to use the area between two circles as an inlet for gas generated by the biomass.

Thank you for any help.!!

You could simulate all of the involved physics with UDFs, but it may be more trouble than it's worth. What are you really looking for here? Gas flow distibution, or just the total generation? Temperature distribution in the biomass? Pressure distribution? The complexity is available, but you should be sure you need it.
