Hi! Everyone, This is Shahabuddin, I'm working on Ansys Fluent in order to simulate the flow behavior into a verticle receiver. My receiver geometry is combination of cylindrical+conical cylinder shape and two outlets are positioned at the top of the cylinderical shape. I need to claculate the amount of mass which is entering to the conical cylinder through the particular plane (z-x/horizontal). The velocity vectors are both positive positive and negative at that plane so I am interested to measure the positive mass only.

you mean you have recirculation at that plane!

and you want to have the mass which is carried with let's say with the positive velocity vectors

First of all try to look after the massflow report function of that plane if she is defined as interior. Otherwise Mass Flow Rate which turns on the computation of the mass flow rate through the surface from the surface integrals!

Think about defining your own integral report if you are only interested in getting one-way massflow in case of backflow

Thanks Zaktatir, yes exactly, I've a recirculation flow, since the top of the verticle receiver is closed and outlet position is below the conical cylinder. yes I've tried to get the mass flow rate by taiking the conical cylinder as an interior. However, its showing ~ zero (10-9) mass flow rate from report>flux option and 10-6(~0) from the surfece integral. I am confused about this values becasue I can see some vectors are going to the conical cylinder which may not be less than 1-5% of inlet mass I believe. My inlet mass flow rate is 0.0070 kg/s.

could you please recommend me anything me about the process which I did again: I just ploted the graph of axial /y velocity (some are positive & some are negative) against x-cordinate from the option: Result>plot>xy plot. Then I wrote the data and inserted into the excell and shorted the data by positive and negative, then I multiplied the positive data with area of each element and density. and finally sum up the resulted values.

But the porblem is, I calculated the approximate area of the cell by dividing the total area of that plane to the nubmer of element of that plane which i got from the mesh stastistics. Again I don't know how much vector (data point) is passing through a single element. Have a look in the attachment please

Thanks again,

Looking forward to you all..
