Fluid below solidius temperature
 
Hi all,

I am busy with modelling the solidification of water into ice. I modelled a 2D cavity with the left wall cooled at 263K and the right wall heated at 283K. The initial temperature of the fluid is 283K. I used the solidification and melting model with a latent heat of 330000 J/kg and a solidus temperature of 272.95 K and a liquidus temperature of 273K. In that case should all the fluid below 272.95K be solid.
If I check the temperature after 60 seconds on the left wall is a region with a temperature below 272.95. If I check the liquid fraction this region still has the value 1. How is this possible as the liquid fraction must be 0 below solidus temperature according to the equations of solidification and melting?

Did you get any solution? The water will reach at 273K and then reject latent heat and then it will be ice and solid. So run for more time and you will see solid (liquid fraction is changing from 1 to lower) is forming.

Thanks for your answer. I used a variable viscosicty and a variable specific heat to simulate the behaivour of the phase change. So you mean, the fluid is cooling down and can be below liquidus temperature and solidus temperature while being liquid because the latent heat is not fully rejected?
