steady state turbulence modelling??
 

Hey,

I know turbulence is time dependent and this could well be a stupid question but is it possible to get useful data out a steady state model for turbulence. I'm only looking at the lift and drag coefficients for flow around an aerofoil and not the flow structures that will result from the interaction.

Yes, of course. You mast use turbulent models if flow is not laminar. I advise you use k-w sst. If you want be more accurate you should account position of laminar-turbulent transition. Difference between study/unsteady is not related to turbulence. You should use unsteady solver if you flow has unsteadiness. Also if you want be more accurate you should simulate 3D flow. Turbulence is always 3d nature.

I advice to you read about buffeting on airfoil to understand when you should use unsteady solver.
