Added Mass

A simply question
is added mass used by Ansys Fluuent in 6DOF model differential equations

gfoam April 9, 2014 17:05

Can you clarify your question?

Displacement of floating structure has to be measured that is product of vortex induced motions. The unit has 3 degrees of freedom sway surge and yaw.
Model of turbulence is k-omega SST.
So the question is does the calculation include added mass or not

Please take a look at this thesis. The answer is yes, because the added mas is a consequense of solving the equation of motion of a body inmersed in a fluid and that is what the 6DOF model does. But you have to calculate the added mass through a propper method, I mean the model 6DOF solves the equation of motion of the body but if you want to know the added mass you have to calculate this. I hope this helps you. Regards. Gonzalo
