Jet in Supersonic Crossflow

Hi everyone,

Currently I am doing a project on a lateral jet injection in supersonic cross flow. A plate has a small jet orifice that would inject Sonic air into the freestream.

I am simulating a condition that was experimentally done by Dowdy and Newton.

Plate Dimension
Length : 457.2 mm
Width = 444.5 mm

Jet Diameter = 2.54mm at 177.8mm from the front of the plate.

The conditions are
Freestream:
M = 2.61
Pressure = 6729.0844 Pa
Total Pressure = 136365.925 Pa
Temperature = 132.8 K
Total Temperature = 313.71 K

Jet:
M = 1
pressure = 1093075.292 Pa
Total Pressure = 2069114.475 Pa
Temperature = 247.067 K
Total Temperature = 296.48 K

I am currently doing a 2D simulation to find out the turbulence intensity to be used and the turbulent length scale before proceeding to modelling this in 3D.

For the turbulence intensity it is usually 0.4 of the boundary layer height as given in Fluent Guide, however, i do not know if i should use the full length of the plate 457.2mm for the boundary layer or should i use the length from the front to the jet orifice 177.8mm.

Also, would it be advisable to use an Implicit or Explicit method?

thanks a lot
zherui
