Direction vectors in Porous Medium

hello everyone,
I am doing cfd analysis of simple rectangular duct with oil as fluid.Wavy type turbulators are inside the duct.I am using Porous model for pressure drop analysis(in Fluent 14.5) due to complex geometry of turbulator. I am confusing about Direction -1 vector/Direction -2 vector/Direction 1,Direction 2 ,Direction 3. I dont know how to enter resistance in direction Z considering flow direction for my geometry.I am attaching image file with this. I am waiting for your reply guys. Thank you so so much in advance. |

Since the duct seems to be aligned with the coordinate axes (x, y, z), leave the default values Direction-1 Vector => X=1, Y=0, Z=0 Direction-2 Vector => X=0, Y=1, Z=0 Regarding the resistance, it depends on the properties of the porous material. If the material is isotropic, enter the same values for all directions. |
Hello!
I have a question regards to the Direction-1 vector in a 2D axi-symmetric model in Fluent for a porous zone. I want to have viscous and inertial resistance in both x and y (basically axial and radial direction)...Do I need to set x=1 ,y=0 or x=1, y=1 in Direction-1 vector section? I think it should be x=1, y=0 for Direction-1 vector and fluent automatically consider x=0,y=1 for Direction-2 vector which is not shown explicitly. Thank you, Hooman |
