Default Missing named sections in Fluent

Hi!

I'm quite new to CFD (and Fluent). I managed to create my models and everything went fine. However the results i get should of course be validated, so i planned to use this: http://turbmodels.larc.nasa.gov/naca0012_val.html. It is a pretty nice validation of a NACA0012 airfoil in 2D. This website also offers a mesh, which i did not manage to import correctly into ansys. Therefore I decided to make the mesh myself, which went fine as well.

However the porblem is that when i name the edges in the fluent meshing tool in the same way i named the surfaces in my 3D analysis (so: inlet, outlet, airfoil and wall) that these names sections do not appear in fluent itself. So i am not able to set appropriate boundary conditions to these edges. I tried to fix this but with no succes so far. In the details of the named section the definition "send to solver" is set to yes so this can not be the problem.

I'm using Ansys 16.0

Thanks in advance!

Jasper

I think it is the standard ansys mesher. When I drag a fluent analisys into the project schematic in the workbench it gives this block with Geometry, Mesh, Setup, Solution and Results. Double clicking "Mesh" opens the mesher i used.

How do you import the geometry whether 2d or 3d...please post the screen shot of the meshing window

This is the mesher i use:

It is opened by double clicking "Mesh" in this block:
I made the shape of the airfoil in Catia V5, and then imported this Catia file into the Design Modeler (which opens by double clicking "Geometry" in the block). In this desgin modeler i made a surface that represents the domain over which the calculations will be done.
What can maybe give a better explanation for you, I basically followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAIB7qK-9pE. This is the first part, in the second part (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQK51-cb-78) he names the edges, when i do exactly the same my named sections simply dont appear in the Solver.

Hello Jasper,
can you post the mesh, if it isn't too big?
I would like to try import it to Fluent.

Regards

You should set named selections in DesignModeler or Meshing individually. If you set some boundaries in DM and the others in Meshing and it will get mistake when you exporting it to ANSYS ICEM. That's my experience. I think maybe it can help you.

Send a message via Skype™ to rajsundarkj
1. You should not assign inbuilt names to your Named selection example:may be named it as Periodic 1 and Periodic 2 in fluent Periodic is an inbuild boundary condition so both will collapse and your named selection will be hidden.

2.Any Named Selection whose Send to Solver option is set to No is skipped during the processing described above. So If you want those named selections in fluent set Yes in Send to solver.

Hope any of these will solve your problem
