Hi all,
I am trying to solve a convection/transport problem in Fluent using the Chemkin format transport database.

Here's what I did:
1. Import Chemkin format mechanism (reduced 5 species, 10 steps reaction) as well as the thermo/transport file to create a new mixture (successful).
2. Enable the species transport model.

The problem is below:
In order to select "reaction-design" option for specific heat, thermal conductivity, viscosity and mass diffusivity, one has to enable "Volumetric Reactions" to be able to select CHEMKIN-CFD from Reaction Design.

Is there a way to solve the NS using Chemkin format transport database without having any reaction (I just want to simulate mixing)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I don't know why you want to enable "CHEMKIN-CFD from Reaction Design".
This option allows you to use reaction rates from Reaction Design’s KINetics module, instead of the default ANSYS Fluent reaction rates.
Since you only solve the cold flow, you can turn off the reaction and only solve the species that specified at boundary, by enabling those equations in solution controls > equations.

Cheers,
Xu

Hi Xu,
I am introducing a simplified mechanisms for ethylene-air (5 steps 10 species) for my problem (opposed-jet).
The fact that it contains only ten species emphasis the validity of both the thermal and transport properties.
We have some preliminary result for a more general simplified mechanisms but we are interest in knowing whether the 5 steps mechanism is also applicable.

Thanks!

Xu,
I sort of understand what you are saying now.
I will let you know if it works.
Monday morning, you know...

Thanks!

Hi Philip,

If you only solve cold flow, no reactions take place, so that reaction properties are not used during the calculation.

Cheers,
Xu
