need help to simulate ice formation in porous medium

Hello,

I am modeling a porous medium which is made of wet sands and air blows through it and comes out from a small outlet. It is a transient simulation and the inlet air temperature changes in time.

I am aware that when air gets colder, ice formation happens at random location in the porous medium and changes the porosity because it blocks the air flow. And when the air gets warmer the formed ice melts and again affects the porosity. I don't know how to set my model to consider these. I thought maybe I should set the solid material as a mixture of sand and water. But I even couldn't figure out how is it possible? Do you have any advice for me?

Below are my current settings:

  • Models: Energy(on),Viscous (Realizable k-e, Standard Wall Fn)
  • Material: Fluid (air), Solid (the properties of the dry sand). I don't know how to present that the sand is wet?
  • Cell zone condition: Porous zone (constant porosity, constant and homogeneous viscous resistance)
  • Boundary conditions: inlet as a velocity boundary condition with a time-varying temperature (UDF); outlet as an outflow boundary condition. The walls are adiabatic.
I appreciate any guidance.

Thank you very much.
