Default Deleting Edges in Gambit

I've imported a iges model from Pro-Engineer and notice that the wireframe contains duplicate edges on the same edge!!

Since my model is large, is there a way in Gambit to delete all duplicate edges on the same edge?

My goal is to form a volume from the wireframe, but I believe that the duplicate edges are causing my errors when I attempt this procedure.

Any help would be appreciated. Alberto

Hi Alberto,

When you import the IGES file, you get a dialog window where you have the option to delete duplicate edges. Choose this option and you should be alright. Be sure to set a proper tolerance as well.

Good Luck.

How do the tolerances effect the import process?

The tolerances are set in order to identify which edges are in fact duplicates and not just very close to each other. A tolerance set too high will delete more edges than intended. A tolerance set too low will leave a number of duplicate edges in your model.

If these extra edges are "stand alone" (i.e not part of any surface) and the model data is in form of iges surfaces, you should activate the check button for "no stand alone edges" on the IGES import form.

On the other hand if the model data is in form of edges only, you need to use "edge connect" to remove duplicate edges. You may have to use real/virtual connects with tolerance as well as tconnect depending upon the case.
