How to Import 3D objects from Pro-Engineer to Gambit?

Dear friends,

I would like to ask if there is anybody knows how to import a 3D object generated in Pro-Engineer CAD software to Gambit. I tried to use the IGES format, but there were some error when I was trying to import that file to Gambit. I tried to use STL format, but the things that I get in gambit is just some surfaces which cannot be combined to form a volume. I don't know what is worng. Maybe the object that I created in Pro-Engineer is too complicated, actually it is an air-plane model.

Is there anyone who can help? Please give me show help, thanks a lot!

Hi, i've had the same problems as you and found that it was due to the fact that gambit works with an Acis modeller whereas Pro-E uses its parametric modeller. The only way you can do it, is to import the wireframes only and then reproduce the faces, volumes in Gambit. Even if you manage to import solids from Pro-E your geome=try will be virtual and you will find it difficult to get convergence in FLuent. Another possibility is to use AUTOCAD. I hope this helps?

You are correct that ACIS files import into Gambit the best. Standard ProE does not have this feature, yet can be added by ordering PROSAT at www.marchettieng.com. This add on will allow ACIS files to be exported from ProE.

Another option is to export in STEP format (ProE V20 and later). Gambit 1.3, to be released any day now, has STEP import.

Tomb,

I operate a business, CAD Repair, that specializes in translating , healing and repairing CAD neutral files. I can import the iges file and export it as a STEP or as an ACIS file. I can heal the model if there are problems in the neutral file that would cause importation problems.

If you are interested in more information you can contact CAD Repair at info@cadrepair.com.
