Unigraphics --> Fluent
Help! I'm modeling in Unigraphics and attempting to import my solid to Fluent. Obviously there is no simple way of doing this, I'm just a beginner. Someone told me I should use Patran, but I don't know that it will work, nor can I find Patran or the company who makes it! Can anyone tell me if they have found a way to export UG --> Fluent and/or where I can find info on Patran? Your help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Re: Unigraphics --> Fluent

I assume that you want to export your UG-Geometry to GAMBIT and not to Fluent? So here comes the way how to do it:

1. Export your geometry as Parasolid (only volumes wil be exported)

2. Import Parasolid into GAMBIT (available since Version 1.3)

That is all. If Parasolid does not word there is still the IGES-Format. With IGES you can export faces, curves, lines, points or what you want.

The company which produces Patran is MSC or McNeal-Schwendler. With Patran you would have the opportunity to directly read in your model file from UG including the history. Patran is the Pre/Postprocessor for Nastran the most used FEM-Structural mechanics code worldwide.
