I am trying to model a phase change problem with Fluent and compare it to published data and the Stefan solution just to test Fluents accuracy before I proceed with a more complex problem. I have run test cases with solidification turned on and compared it to a pure conduction problem with exactly the same boundary conditions. The results showed the temperature profiles were the same. I was expecting the phase change problem to account for the latent heat and show a difference in the temperature profile. The only use I can see in using the phase change feature in Fluent is to graphically display the percentage of the liquid and solid region. I have tried many different cases and cant see how Fluent incorporates the latent heat in the phase change problem. I would appreciate any responses of your experiences with these types of problems.
