Hi,

I'm trying to do a benchmark on both the Pentium and AMD processors. I've completed the Pentium benchmark, but I can't get Fluent to run on the AMD processor. It will read the file, but when it starts to build the grid a amgsolver error occurs. I was using redhat version 7.1 in text mode to advoid the graphics problem (for both cases). Has anyone successfully run Fluent on an AMD proccessor? If so, What did you do to get it to run?

Hi,

We did run Fluent before on an AMD 1.2 Ghz processor under Windows NT. This ran stable but we switched to a P4 1.7 Ghz because the speed is a lot higher. This is caused by the fast RDRAM of the P4 rather than the higher CPU speed.

I consider buy an Athlon 1.4 or 1.2 as an economic choice of performance/price in replace to P4 1.5G what do you think?

My experience is that P4 1.7 GHz runs Fluent about 20% faster than a 1.2 GHz Athlon. Check the cost see if you can justify buying a P4.

So far I have only tested dual Athlon running Linux. The comparisons were also made between P4 running Win2k and Athlon running Linux (Red Hat 7.1). The largest I benchmarked has a mesh around 200,000 cells. Sorry cannot really help.
