LINEAR SIZING FUNCTION SHOULD BE ATTACH?

hi, some times, while generating mesh on the face in gambit, i am getting the following message. i.e., " Linear sizing function should be attached to the face." what is meaning of this message?

Yea, I've also always wondered about that. It seems to happen when you have large/complex faces. The grid usually looks okay even when you get this error message though.

Anyone know what implications this error message really has? How can you avoid it and what problems can you expect when you get it?

Re: Linerar sizing function should be attach?

The sizing functions are a new set of tools that are designed to help us avoid a lot of domain decomposition in the case of complex geometries. They can also be used to put say several layers of tets in narrow regions of geometries.

I think the message is just suggesting that the meshing could be done much more easily by using size functions. So if you can mesh your domain successfully I would suggest that the message can be neglected. But if you cannot mesh your domain successfully, then Gambit is suggesting that the use of size functions may be very helpful in your case.

This is the most useful feature I have seen in Gambit in a long time. I think the Gambit team should be working very hard in making the sizing functions work better.

Hmm... I have seen this message many times in gambit 1.x, hence I don't think it has anything to do with the new sizing functions available in 2.x.

You might be right, but it is also possible that adding size functions was in the works since Gambit 1.X.

May be some one from the Gambit team can clarify this.

Yes, Amadou's observation is correct. The idea of the Sizing function was from the beginning but the implementation got delayed due to other priorities.

Hi,

This message was indication of greatly varying sizes on the colloiding fronts. Now this message has been replaced in Gambit2.0 Qaud paving by more intelligible message . The new message is:

"The interval sizes vary greatly on the boundary of face . Although meshing will be attempted, it may be best to adjust interval sizes or attach an appropriate size function to the face."
