meshing for surface ship flow

Can anyone generously shed some light on the meshing strategy for a full scale ship flow model, e.g. block structure, meshing procedure, mesh type (structured mesh, unstructured mesh or a hybrid mesh), element number controlled, any special treatment for free surface, bulbous bow and transom, etc.

I have struggled to model the ship flow using a hybrid mesh(using unstructured mesh around bulbous bow and stern and using structured mesh for the rest of the domain), the case has a problem to converge. I suspect that the convergence problem might be due to the mesh quality.

Any info or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
