Turbulent flow through porous medium?

When does a flow through a porous medium become turbulent? Can such problems be solved with Fluent? Thanks. Shankar.

i think Fluent can. for some my colleagues are working at this.

Re: Turbulent flow through porous medium?

FLUENT models porous media flow as a fluid region with an extra momentum sink term. As such, it CAN model turbulence in a porous medium but CANNOT account for any fluid-structure interactions that might promote or suppress turbulence. If you want to include that, you would have to write some sort of UDF.

Thanks to both of you, so when is a flow considered turbulent in a porous medium? Shanjar.
