Re: How many user use Fluent 4.x ?

We are using Fluent 4.5.6 for modeling boilers, with a dozen or so user defined subroutines. We've been using this for several years. Over the last few years, we had given up on getting any Fluent support for 4.5 as we always got the same story - "No one here at Fluent is working on 4.5, we're developing version 6."

This year we tried to port our applications to V6 to take advantage of new features in V6. To my surprise, support for V6 is no better than V4.5. My support engineer has no experience with my applications, and the experts are far away, and so far, unavailable.

At this time, V4.5 is a better tool for our application than V6. We are looking at alternatives to Fluent, which promise better solutions to our support problems.

Perhaps, Fluent should offer V4.5 at a reduced cost, with no promise of support, for users who want to go that route.

Yeah, well. Their support is far between and long in arriving that's for sure.

Could you instead use User-Defined Functions in Fluent 5.5?

Re: How many user use Fluent 4.x ?

No, I can't use UDF in Fluent 5.5 or 6.0 instead Fluent 4.5.
Coz, Fluent 5.5 & 6.0 can't solve multiphase and multicomponent case together.
my work is simulation of chemical process which has 2 phases (gas and water) and in phase gas have 3 species (O2 N2 H2O(vapor)) that why, I must use only Fluent4.5. :(

Try check out this site:

http://www.fluentusers.com/fluent45/doc/doc_f.htm

But you need User ID and password to access it. Ask the Fluent license holder in your department. It contains stuff like these:

FLUENT 4.5 Documentation

Release Notes

Update Manual

Multiphase Validations and Examples HTML PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF HTML PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF HTML PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF Solution Files

FLUENT 4.4 User's Guide FLUENT 4.4 Tutorial Guide FLUENT 4.4 NOx Module (2.1) User's Guide PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF Corrections PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF Solution Files PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF

New Feature Documentation for Maintenance Releases HTML PostScript Adobe Acrobat PDF

Also, I had the similar problem of being ignored so I made a lot of noise i.e. asking my technical questions via emails which I sent everywhere until I get help. Try it, it could work. You never know who's going to help you in the end.

Best of luck.
