convection......-> conduction......-> convection

Hi guys, it is worth to be here......

I have learned many things from this user Forum and I hope some one could come with a useful solution for my request.

my problem is......

I want to simulate turbulent flow through a Pipe in Pipe structure consisting of two different fluids,..............lets say hot air & cold air flowing through Outer Pipe and Inner Pipe respectively in the same direction.

My region of interest is to identify............. the characteristics of Heat transfer from the Hot Fluid to Pipe wall (nearly of 1mm thick ness) to Cold Fluid.

can be said as.........Heat transfer....via

convection (hot fluid).......->conduction(wall).......->convection(cold fluid)

.....this process of heat transfer is called Conjugated Heat Transfer.

Now my request is....

Is it possible to simuate in FLUENT such type of flow and observe the heat transfer characteristics of

1. hotfluid .....-> pipe wall(outer surface, near wall region) and

2. Pipe wall(through out the thickness)

3. Pipe wall(inner surface, near wall region) ......-> cold fluid

Please let me know if you have helpfull sujjetions in this regard....

Thanks a lot

madasu

Re: convection......-> conduction......-> convecti

Sure. It is actually very easy: in Gambit you need to model the pipe solid material as if it were a fluid zone. So you get three volumes: inside the pipe, the pipe itself, and outside the pipe. Make sure to include sufficient cells in the the pipe radial direction if thermal gradients are high. Then in Gambit (or even later in the Fluent boundary definition menu) you can set the pipe volume to be a solid. In the material definition panel you can specify your solid thermal properties. That's all, very straightforward.

Yes, it works if steady scheme is used. If the unsteady scheme is tried in order to see the change of the temperature field with the time, it doesn't work, i.e. the wall temperature will never change with the time marching). This is my experience for your reference. Thanks.
