I have a 3d model in Autocad and I need to carry out a CFD analysis of the whole model. I am not sure how i can import that model into GAMBIT . i.e which kind of file....and how to...etc. Thanks, Taher

hi, Taher

the dwg or dfx can not be imported into the gambit.maybe you can use some modeling tool just like pro/e to convert it into igs format

regards

Export your model as an ACIS file (*.sat file extension) from AutoCAD. You will have to turn your geometry into solids to export it. When you export to *.sat, you have to select the solid geometry in your model explicitly. In 2-D you use the "region" command to form your geometry.

In the past, I have successfully used AutoCAD to create geometry for Gambit in 2 and 3-D.

Me too. Also note the procedure: 1. Export autocad file as an ACIS 2. If created on a PC you need to convert format by command: to_unix filename 3. Open up gambit and import file as an ACIS. 4. Clean up geometry, you may find that volumes overlap, you have lines on lines etc, but for a complicated geometry its better than starting from scratch.

Firsly export your cad drawing as solinds and not lines. This should help. You can then set tolerances so that lines very close together become the same line (see the gambit tutorial involving the Sedan cad geometry, it should explain everything). It takes patience, and dependes on the quality of the cad drawing in the first place. But i recommend you read thye tutorial I mentioned above, it explains most of what you need to know.
