Displaying the conduction through a solid
 

Hi, in my model, I've got a hot piece of film on a wall which is exposed to a flow.

I'm interested in the thermal distribution in the fluid, AS WELL, as in my wall...

I've tried to manipulate my model in GAMBIT and FLUENT, but I just can't seem to make FLUENT compute/make displays about the distribution of temperature in my wall.

Does that mean that I have to define my wall as a fluid?

Chris, if you use the constant heat flux,you can display the wall temperature directly,and you can create a surface in the fluid zone in order to display the fluid temperature!If you use the constant wall temperature,hehe the temperature distribution in fluid,you can get it just mentioned!

Thank you for that piece of information :) I must admit, learning to use FLUENT isn't easy! I'll do what you have advised when my lab opens on Monday.

Dear Zhhuang,

But what if my flow is passing over a surface (wall) which is divided into 3 zones?

The central zone will be releasing heat into the flow (which I am modeling as a constant surface temperature of 100 K hotter than the fluid).

But I also want to know how the heat is being conducted by the two surfaces on either side of it as well. Since these walls do not produce any heat flux to the flow, nor do I want them to be constant temperature walls, what kind of boundary conditions should I define for them?

Hi, I went to display > contours > temperature > wall temperature (either inner or outer)...

But I keep getting the same plots for either outer or inner, and if I choose the surface to plot as my wall, i get the error statement:

"Error: APPEND: invalid argument: wrong type [not a pair] Error Object: wall"

Can you advise?

Hi chris, Your model is 2D or 3D? If you want to get temperature distribution along the wall, main thing your model should be 3D. Then specifed the wall as solid region. In boundary condition you have to invoke shell conduction for the wall and specify the tempearture for that wall. After solving you will able to see the temperature distribution along the wall. Just try it, will work. senthil.
