Front Tracking and VOF

How to use Fluent to do front tracking, such as filling of a mold CAVITY?

Can Fluent do the simulation with VOF method for free surface flow ? How ?

Re: Front Tracking and VOF

FLUENT 6.0 has a cabability of solving free surface flow by using VOF method. For this purpose, you must built a grid for water and air part seperately. I mean that Your medel must have two inlet, one is for air and the other is for water, and your model must have two outlet, one is for water part and the other is for air part. Actually the boundary condition is related to the problem. But I can say that FLUENT 6.0 is a good tool for free surface problem, and you can solve this type of problem by using VOF method. When you initialize the problem, use the air inlet part, and then use "patch" command to indicate the level of water. First adapt + region part, and then mark the grids which are in water part, then go initialize + patch and then patch the marked region, by selecting the region and volume of water phase and writing 1 for the value. Then you can solve ... good luck

Re: Front Tracking and VOF

You may want to read some papers before you start simulations. If you search 'web of science' you will find quite few papers using VOF to model this kind of application.
