meshing Pebble bed using Gambit

I need help meshing a pebble bed. I tried using size function but get an error message that volume meshing fails due to smaller areas between the volumes. How can I go about this?

Hi...

How are you planning to model the pebble bed? I am also modeling something similar to a pebble bed. It would be good to exchange some views on that.

You are creating a tangent point where pebbles touch each other. This is very hard to mesh properly with reasonable skewness. I would probably use a tet mesh (against my normal practice) and make sure I have a sufficiently fine mesh at the pebble contact points. This could mean a very large number of cells!

Another option could be to eliminate these tangent points by flattening the pebbles a tiny little bit at the contact points.
