Re: ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE FORUM?

NO.

This is surely the fate when "mouse-happy cfd modelers" do only 'click - click', produce colored arrows (vectors) and curved lines (contours), visit these forums and post stupid messages on so-called cfd without knowing what cfd is. Contributors who were enlightening us on cfd issues (I mean cfd and not the kind of trash in the name of cfd) have gradually withdrawn.

i'm happy with the forum.

it does what it should.

perhaps people who are unhappy with the forum should exercise their free right to gradually withdraw themselves.

It's a great forum for people who are learning to use CFD.

The forum doesn't get as many hits as before but you can still be sure that if you post a question someone will try and help you. Isn't that the idea of the forum??

One good thing that has happen recently is the the amount of questions asking if people are satisfied with the forum and are they happy with all the new click happy "commerical CFD users" seemed to have stopped.

Remember you too at some stage didn't know how to solve the simplest of problems!!

This site has been a great help to me!!

Thanks to all who contribute

Mark

Mark, The forum should be for advanced level users as well as beggeners. Most begginners ask questions if they read the UserGuide and Tutorial will have the answers and even more. My point, we missed many experts used to be in the forum.good luck.. Jim

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

Have you got any suggestions about how to make things better? Surely, forbidding "stupid" posts or censoring things that you could read in books or manuals isn't a solution.

Btw, the forums attract more traffic than ever before, so the problem is not a lack of people.

I think that it is quite natural that experienced people come and go. Also, as you yourself grow more experienced it is natural that it is more difficult to get help and find interesting topics on the forums.

To be honest I don't think that the forum quality has gone down. A few gurus have left but several new have also come. People always tend to think that "it was better before" even though that is not the case.

Are we happy with the forum - compared to what? Is there something better out there? Have you ever looked at Fluent's webpage and somewhat anemic discussion forum?

Ideally, a representative from Fluent would monitor the forum and provide answers to some of the basic questions that appear from modelers who apparently haven't bothered to crack open the manual. In some of the other sites, the vendors seem to weigh in now and again. I don't know why Fluent doesn't want to involve themself in what I see as the best web-site for CFD.

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

Definitely,

This is the best place to learn from each other ranging from very beginners to very professionals. I by myself have learned a lot from this forum......I can say this confidently.

If I look back to the questions...... I have posted a year ago seems to be stupid today........but sincerely they weren`t really stupid for me in those days..... when I started following this Forum as a beginner and even more those questions were the guide lines for me to pave my path as a professional CFD analyst in future.

There would be surely many cases similar to mine, so I request those professionals of today and tomorrow....please keep on helping the new comers, after all, which can one way or other influence the next generation CFD developments.

I believe all Fluent employees are banned from responding. What a lovely company.

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

Just to clarify - CFD Online has not banned anyone. However, Fluent and several other companies often have an internal policy that employees are not allowed to post to this type of public forums. I think that this is a pity, although I understand their reasons - A "not so smart" employee could really destroy a company's credibility and reputation by posting bad things here. A better approach could be to allow a few "smart" employees to respond (several companies also do this - they have people dedicated to follow the forums and respond to questions they find relevant, either in private or in public).

Fluent used to have their product managers follow the forums. I think they still do, although they by now might belong to the group of "gurus who got tired and don't return that often anymore". Perhaps we would need some fresh Fluent blood...

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

Ditto that, Jonas.

If Fluent does keep an active eye on this forum, they can step in and help when folks are going round in circles, unable to get any answers to their queries.

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

I think the forum is still pretty good. Its a good place to get information when you're learning. I think people should also remember that its also about contributing - if you don't contribute - you shouldn't be expecting any help.

Of course, from time to time people ask fairly simple questions - but then we all did that. My only gripe, is that some posts come in anonymously with the intention of being somewhat influential - personally I'm fairly sceptical and generally take a lot less notice of anonymous posts.

Re: i'm happy with the forum.

Forum discussion is helpful as well as confusing somtimes as we get different opinions from different users which are totally contradictory. Also I feel even the FLUENT company engineers are not sure of many complex problems and they also give some irrational answers, as I have experienced.

Sometimes I get valuable information that is really helpfull and sometimes I can reply to help others.

So I'm happy./Alamgir
