u can try different meshes available in the mesh option u can stair case, or Tgrid etc.. For map mesh every thing should be uniform i.e uniform square or rectangle.

Perhaps you could try to decompose your volume in sub-volumes.

You can get a mapped mesh on your barrel (surface 3) the following way: split the intersecting edge with vertices, so that you get 4 vertices at equal distances (at 45, 135, 225 and 315 degrees). Now you can make this circle a mapped mesh (if necessary you have to make the 4 vertices an 'END' vertex). Once the small circle is mapped you can also map the barrel of the cilinder.

The problem with this approach is that the 4 corners of the intersecting circle map are pretty skewed, you can use the 'move mesh nodes' option to correct this.

<font face = "courier new">Try the following method (not sure it will work):

(1) Extend the small cylinder a little 'inside' the big one
(2) Splot the small volume using the big volume and retain the 'split tool' i.e the big cylinder.
(3) Now you will be left with 3 volumes
(4) Delete the small extra volume 'inside' the big cylinder and do a "face connect real" operation
(5) This would provide a 'common face' on the two cylinders. Call these V1(big) and V2(small)
(6) Exactly on the 'highest' and 'lowest' points of the face create two rectangular faces.
(7) Split the big cylinder using these 2 faces and delete the two faces
(8) Do a "face connect real" operation. This connects the disjointed faces.
(9) Now you have 4 volumes. Top,middle and bottom of the big cylinder and the small cylinrical protrusion.
(10) Mesh the top and bottom using quad/cooper. Mesh the small cylinder similarly.
(11) for the middle volume try enforcing a map/submap scheme.

In my opinion that is the best that can be done.
